Discover this and more at the city’s official website: http://www.cityofchubbuck The city of Chubbuck was originally inhabited by the Bannock and Shoshone Indian tribes until the early 1800s when trappers and hunters began migrating to the area in search of fur. By 1832, Nathaniel J. Wyeth had built the Fort Hall Trading Post to accommodate the large amount of trappers who had come to the area. Chubbuck continued to attract new settlers but did not receive its name until much later as a result of Chubbuck being the last name of a railroad conductor who loaded all of the area’s major crops onto the trains. Chubbuck was also once divided into two halves and owned by two separate individuals, until the Indian Lands Rush when the land was open to homesteading in accordance to the Homestead Act.
